DP World is expanding its logistics operations across Latin America, driven by nearshoring trends and rising trade between Mexico and the U.S. The company recently opened a freight forwarding hub in Mexico City and has added over 35 offices in the Americas to support growing demand. With nearly 800 logistics staff in Mexico, DP World is focusing on end-to-end supply chain solutions, including warehousing and multimodal transport. It also plans to invest $760 million to expand the Port of Caucedo in the Dominican Republic, strengthening its presence in the region’s infrastructure and trade networks.

DP World Expands in Latin America

  • New freight forwarding hub in Mexico City: DP World opened a facility to support rising Mexico–U.S. trade driven by nearshoring trends
  • Strategic investment in Mexico: In response to manufacturers relocating closer to North American markets, DP World is adding capabilities in freight forwarding, warehousing, and multimodal transport for sectors like automotive, electronics, and consumer goods
  • Large workforce and sustained demand: Nearly 800 logistics staff in Mexico are supporting record cross-border freight from Mexico to the U.S., in both directions
  • Growing ocean-to-land links: Container bookings from China to Mexico have surged by 26% since mid-May (though still down year-over-year), highlighting broader supply chain shifts

Key Points

  • Nearshoring is reshaping trade patterns: as manufacturers move closer to North American consumers, Mexico has become a pivotal logistics hub
  • DP World is focusing not just on ports but also inland logistics, emphasizing A–Z solutions across the supply chain .
  • The firm continues to increase its footprint across multiple Latin American countries, leveraging investments in both freight forwarding and port operations

SSAF Positioning

SSAF Logistics is well-positioned to capitalize on this trend by offering specialized air freight, hazardous material handling, and intermodal transport between the U.S. and Latin America. With major players investing in infrastructure and freight forwarding hubs in Mexico, SSAF can align its services—such as airport-to-airport delivery and expedited cargo—to meet the surge in cross-border shipping needs. This shift also opens up partnership and growth opportunities for SSAF within Latin American supply chains, especially in sectors like automotive, pharmaceuticals, and e-commerce logistics.
